- Why would customers buy our product?
Remember - you can be innovative in any area of your business- product, marketing, sales, IT, operations, finance.
Innovation and product ideas
Product ideas and selection
- Brainstorm ideas - consider the team’s abilities, knowledge, contacts and resources.
- Long List: 5-10+ ideas
- Ask yourselves:
Is this something that people will want ? Can we make/buy enough product? Can we make a profit? Will WE enjoy doing this?
- Reduce: Achieve a short list of 1-3 products/service ideas
Innovation and product ideas
- When selecting from Short list, ask yourselves:
– What are we selling? – Who will buy it? – Where will we get it? – How much will it cost to get and timescale? – How much will customers pay/how many could we sell?

Essentials for success
- Teamwork
- Commitment
Essentials for success
There’s a lot to do
One person can’t do everything
Think of a team sport
Everyone has their own special
responsibility but… Support the others too
Essentials for success - Teamwork
One hour a week is not enough!
- A board meeting is a planning and decision making
meeting
- Problem solving and completion of tasks must take
place between meetings
Essentials for success - Commitment
If you agree to a task and a date the team is relying on you
- deliver or warn people in advance if you can’t
Don’t agree if you don’t believe you can deliver
