This set of slides is intended for schools to inform Secondary 1 Express students and their parents of the opening up of the Art and Music Elective Programmes (AEP/MEP) to students in non-AEP/MEP schools from 2016, and the application procedures. Heads of Department in charge of art and music, and/or teachers teaching the subjects are encouraged to share the information with every new cohort of Secondary 1 Express students and their parents, We would also appreciate it if schools could facilitate and support students in the e- submission of their application by 15 January 2018. After that, schools have until 17 January 2017 to obtain principal’s endorsement and fax Annex A to Arts Education Branch. Schools may adapt the slides and suggested talking points to share with parents. Estimated time needed: 15 – 20 minutes.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF MEP?

ü Students have to sit for the MEP Selection Exercise if they are applying for the MEP Centres

ü They should also have obtained a pass in Grade Three Practical and Theory/Practical Musicianship exams of the ABRSM or the equivalent standard from other exam boards; OR in the absence of the above qualifications, ü Pass the Selection Exercise

ü The Selection Exercise comprises the following:

ü Listen and analyse two musical extracts and answer a series of questions ü Music Theory ü Practical Audition (2 contrasting pieces on an instrument/voice in any style of a total duration of 5 min) ü Interview

Applicants will be shortlisted and notified to attend the selection in January – February 2018. Submit an application

copy of your application, which is to be signed by your

  • parent. Submit this

signed copy to your Secondary school’s Art/Music Coordinator.
