⚫ Benold Middle School was the second middle school to open in Georgetown. ⚫ It opened in the fall of 1996. ⚫ The school was named after Dr. Douglas Benold. ⚫ School colors – Blue & White ⚫ School mascot – Eagle

Math Pathways for incoming 6th graders

Pathway 2 for 6th grade covers the 7th grade math content Math pathway 1 for 6th grade covers the 6th grade math content, preparing students to learn the 7th grade math content in their 7th grade year. Math pathway 2 for 6th grade covers the 7th grade math content, preparing students to learn the 8th grade math content in their 7th grade year. Math pathway 3 for 6th grade covers the 7th/8th grade math compacted, preparing students to take Algebra in their 7th grade year

Students will be enrolled in the next level of math according to their current math pathway placement in the 5th grade. Should students have a change in math placement based on the screening process, families will receive notification and adjustments will be made to reflect these changes in May.

PE/Health & Fine Arts Elective

⚫ All 6th graders will take PE/Health or Pre-Athletics

⚫ UIL Sports will be available to students next year in grades 7 and 8: Football, Basketball, Track, Volleyball, (Soccer & Cross Country

  • ffered before or after school)

⚫ Tennis is a separate class offered to 7th and 8th graders only

⚫ All 6th graders will take two elective

⚫ All electives for 6th graders are Fine Arts ⚫ The 6th graders will choose between: Art, Band, Choir, Orchestra, & Theater

*Every effort will be made to schedule students into their first choice

  • elective. However, class size limitations and other scheduling factors

may require placement in a student’s second or third choice elective.

Benold Pre- Athletics

What is Pre Athletics: The Pre-Athletics class will focus on the development of future athletes for competitive UIL Sports. Advanced athletic activities and sport specific skills make up the curriculum of this class. Athletes who participate in the course will be required to:

  • Suit-out each day
  • Participate in all activities
  • Work at a vigorous level.

Each week, students will be given specific training in the following:

  • Speed & Endurance
  • Agility
  • Explosive movement
  • Weight training
  • Sport-specific skills

Athletes will rotate day to day between several activities. Girls Pre-Athletics The following sports are emphasized:

  • Cross Country
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Track
  • Tennis
  • Soccer

Strength and Conditioning Boys Pre-Athletics The following sports will be emphasized:

What is Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP)?

⚫ Academically advanced courses designed to challenge students ⚫ Designed to prepare students for high school level Pre-AP and AP courses ⚫ Courses offered in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies

Are you ready for Pre-AP?

⚫ Level III Advanced Standard on previous year’s STAAR is recommended for preparedness ⚫ Teacher recommendation based on classroom work ethic, motivation, and average of 85 or better

Georgetown ISD Secondary Schools Schedule Change Guidelines

Schedule change requests must be made in writing, with a parent signature, within five (5) days of the start of class. Requests may not be approved. Requests for schedule changes will be approved for the following reasons: ⚫ Error in schedule ⚫ Student was unsuccessful in passing the prerequisite course ⚫ Change in program/level (athletics, band, choir, orchestra, etc.) ⚫ Level changes as recommended by teachers and counselor with parental knowledge and principal approval

Georgetown ISD Pre-AP/AP Level Change Guidelines

Petition for Pre-AP/AP Course Exit may be requested twice during the school year: within the 3rd and 6th week of the first nine-week grading period (to begin in an on-level course within the first nine-weeks); ~ OR ~ the first ten (10) school days of December (to begin in an on-level course for the spring semester)

Immunization Requirement for 7th graders

In preparing for a safe and healthy school year, the following additional immunizations will be required for your sixth grader to enroll in seventh grade. We advise students do this before middle school. ⚫ One booster dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis pertaining vaccine, only if it has been 5 years since the last dose was received; ⚫ One dose of Meningococcal vaccine; ⚫ Two doses of Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccine with the first dose on

If your child has already received one or more of these vaccinations, please submit an updated record to the nurse as soon as possible.
