30-31 October 2010, 1st club in Cyprus with the best Attendance This year we are giving 5 PHF. We got 3 of them on Rotary Foundation date with double recognition points thus saving the club $1500.

DYSLEXIA BI-COMMUNAL PROJECT

Dyslexia awareness booklet for Cyprus 1. Cyprus Dyslexia Association wrote the booklet 2. Rotary Club of Nicosia – Aspelia, coordinated the project, translated the booklet into Turkish and printed 2000 copies in Greek 3. The Turkish Cypriot Dyslexia Association (KKDD) worked on the Turkish version and organised the distribution of the booklet 4. The Rotary club of Nicosia Sarayionou embraced the project and printed and distributed the Turkish translation 5. Fund raising by the Rotary clubs 6. Excellent media coverage in TV news 2 TV Live Programs 1 Radio Program and press coverage

DYSLEXIA PROJECT “TRAIN THE TRAINER” 2010

Club Trainer: PP Marianna Trokoudes

  • Training workshops for parents and teachers who handle or

encounter Dyslexic children, October-November 2010.

  • Initiative taken by Nicosia-Aspelia and Nicosia Sarayonu,

representing all the 19 Rotary Clubs in Cyprus.

  • Aiming to assist the Dyslexia Associations of the two

communities.

  • External funding from the Small Grant Programme of the

“Engage” project executed by the NGO Support Centre and the Management Centre and sponsored by the UNDP-ACT.

  • Active participation of Dyslexia Associations of the two

communities.

  • Follow up by small bi-communal informal meetings of

both the Greek and Turkish Cypriot parents and teachers.

  • Girls Hostel in Engomi.

To offer support to the needy children in Gaza Strip especially for those suffering from chronic diseases or who are orphans. Sponsorship through the Children’s Relief Foundation (CRF) Aspelia is organising Fund raising International Emergency fund - ongoing project

  • Shelter Boxes

Shelter Box is a global Rotary Club project which relies entirely on public donations, and responds instantly to disasters all around the world, we feel a responsibility to contribute in it. Aspelia is now buying 2 shelter Boxes

  • Disaster Relief Task Force - Terrorist attack in Alexandria Egypt

Immediate response to the above by sending $500 to help heal and rebuild. Fund raising: Donations by 2 companies.

INTERACT CLUB

We had the Chartering of our 1st Interact club at the American International School in Cyprus ( AISC) on A 3 members subcommittee undertook the training and the Rotary awareness. Involvement in the Aspelia Environmental Project in Collaboration with “Green Dot” The school was one of the 2 schools that received 40 Recycling bins for paper/Carton and PMD worth 1984 Euros and a composting donated by Blars – Business links and representation services Mr Loizos Afxentiou
