New Generation Health Center (New Gen) was founded in 1997. Today, it is predominantly a family planning clinic with a strong outreach component that serves people of all ages, but retains its youth- friendly atmosphere and expertise. In March, because of mounting financial and structural concerns, UCSF announced the closure of New Gen. UCSF has seen an outpouring of community support for the specific services and personalized care that New Gen provides. As a result of this support and community concern over an imminent closure, UCSF identified funds from a variety of programs that will enable the center to remain open in its current form until June 30, 2017. This will allow for the development of a robust transition plan and explore the possibility for

UCSF and San Francisco’s Department of Public Health have committed to partnering with the community to develop a responsive and effective transition plan to ensure the continued availability of confidential reproductive health care to teens and young adults in San Francisco – either through the continued operations of New Gen or through other appropriate community- based providers.
