  • COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person
  • This is a new coronavirus that was first identified in Wuhan, China
  • This virus is affecting adults/elderly at a higher rate than adolescents
  • There are confirmed cases in the United States
  • Currently, there are NO current confirmed cases in Merced County

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of:

  • Fever (temperature > 100.4)
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

Recommendations from Public Health Officials

  • At this time, there is no recommendation from the Merced County Public

Health Department to cancel:

○ School ○ Field trips (unless to an area where there is confirmed community spread) ○ Athletic trips (unless to an area where there is confirmed community spread or if the teams are coming from an area of community spread) ○ Public events

  • With this guidance we will continue school and school related activities as

scheduled (unless they are scheduled in an area where there is confirmed community spread)

How can I protect myself?

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer

with at least 60% alcohol

  • Always wash your hands when they are visibly dirty
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands

Spraying or wiping down all buses/vans at the end of the day, EVERY DAY

Wiping down all desks/work areas in classrooms, EVERY DAY

well as posting updates via ParentSquare, social media, and the district and school websites

  • DO staff are buying hand sanitizer, wipes, and spray (when we can get our

  • First agenda item at every cabinet meeting (2x/week)
