Research Proposal
In Australia, the consent for organ donation must come from the family of the deceased, even if the deceased had registered as an organ donor. This means that if family members don’t know each other’s wishes, they could make the wrong decision.
Contextual Relevance
- Approximately 40% of Australians haven’t discussed
their organ donation decisions with their family (Organ and Tissue Authority 2016).
- Less than 1% of deaths are in a situation where organ
donation is possible (Organ and Tissue Authority 2016),
- There is a complex matching process involved in fjnding
the right organs for someone on the transplant waiting list.
