General Workshop Presentation

The Sensory Garden – Ørby Haderslev Production School has a satellite department, which formerly was a farm . The farm is situated in a small village called Ørby, about 14 km from Haderslev. At the end of the 3 year Interreg project period there will be a sensory garden in Ørby. The garden is to be used by all sorts of people, regardless of disability. Sensory Gardens are created to help, relax, stimulate and teach. The idea behind the Sensory Garden is to combine elements that will stimulate the senses – sound, touch, taste, smell and sight. Combined, when one walks through the garden, they can enjoy the experience with different parts of the brain. The first part of the project was to establish facilities, so visitors can seek shelter and enjoy the surroundings in all weather conditions. The second phase is landscaping a sensory garden in the surroundings at Ørby.

Workshop 2018 Planned production

The main goal of the second workshop is to establish water features in the sensory garden in form of assembling a bridge and landscaping a water feature.

The workshop will include landscaping, stone setting, small gardening jobs, assembling, mounting and installation of a small garden bridge. (hopefully it will look something like this… we have not yet finished the design ) During the workshop the students will learn to use different hand – and powertools for example: Accu drill, garden tools, screwdrivers, handsaw and power saw The students will work with of variety of materials e.g. wood, metal, earth , plants and stones which are associated with the landscaping trade. All work shop activities are in accordance with Danish Health and safety regulations. The students will be provided with the necessary safety equipment and will be instructed in safety rules and precautions. The written safety instructions will be in Danish and German to insure that the students have a full understanding of the risks involved. The students will be equipped with the necessary safety work clothing and shoes for the duration of the workshop. They are welcome to bring their own clothing and safety shoes. Please let us know if they require to borrow clothes and shoes.

Buddy selection and preparation

Buddies are selected students responsible for host activities during the workshops. They are recruited amongst the students at the production school, preferably amongst students of the learning lab, as they are most familiar with the workshop surroundings etc. Buddies are students , who have taken in interest in the CPL project and who are interested in the student exchange program. The buddies are responsible for making the guest students feel welcome and at ease in the new surroundings. The buddies will be involved in the planning of different “after workshop” activities and will be joining in. The buddies will be able to communicate in English and Danish and have a knowledge of the German language, so they will be able to understand German. Some of the teaching staff have good German language skills and will be able to assist and communicate in German and English.
