ABOUT 0S 400

The OS is a Spin hard coater that has been specifically designed to apply scratch resistant and tintable thermally cured lacquer to uncoated organic

  • phthalmic lenses.

The machine is very compact, lightweight and self contained requiring three &single-phase power. The process is carefully controlled to guarantee that the coating thickness, uniformity and surface quality are maintained consistently. An additional feature on the OS 400 is the class 100 laminar flow enclosure, enabling the machine to be sited in a normal laboratory environment. The latest version of the OS 400 includes variable pull speed for improved coating for segmented lenses, modified filtering and lacquer flow management for better particulate removal and a vapor extraction facility for improved user environment.

TECHNOLOGY

The 0S 400 is very quick and easy to load

  • directly. One lenses are clipped into a

carrier and loaded directly . Lens loading without vacuum it mean no air wastage and no rubber sucker

IN WORKING CONDITION

SLIDE 14

1:- About 200 rpm during the application of the coating,

then about 400-900 rpm to spin off the excess material. 2:- UV lamp is medium-pressure mercury vapor type . 3:- Curing time will depend on the lamp and its reflector (focused or not), and whether the whole lens surface is exposed to the light at once, or if it moves slowly past the light. But even with unfocused UV light, the curing time will be less than 45 seconds. 4:- Viscosity of the material is adjustable, but is in the range of 10 to 30 centipoises usually. 5:- Storage stability is at least several years, if kept away from light in a closed container. 6:- It should be all right to use any spin coating machine. 7:- The hardness of the resulting coating is dependent on how it is evaluated. Many tests commonly used provide results that we believe are unrealistic compared to "real world" use. Our favorite test is

  • ne of the simplest --rubbing the coating by hand with steel wool. Using the finest grade of steel wool

(designated as #0000 in this country), ten rubs with very firm thumb pressure will normally give a dozen visible scratches.
