BBLEARN/launchSession/guest?uid=cfc26de1-2034-4ca8-a225- 054f1408eb98&course_id=_118181_1 Abstract: Thorne Research has set the standard for exceptional formulations, quality, and purity in the dietary supplement industry for over 30 years. The R&D department plays a critical role in creating this legacy. The current Research and Development (R&D) workflow spans a long 73 weeks with some products exceeding this target. It was determined that the length of this workflow needs to be reduced and the process needs to be improved to assure that target dates are achieved. Lean Six-Sigma(LSS) is a continuous improvement methodology that has been used in various industries to improve processes. This project applied the LSS approach to improve the Thorne Research R&D workflow with the intent to reduce the timeline to below 40 weeks and assure the timeline is achieved. Applying these methods resulted in a streamlined R&D workflow with results averaging 35 weeks.

The purpose of the document is to report on the findings, improvements, and executed actions as a result of the challenged practices that were being performed in the support shop. The goal is to provide a systematic approach for Support Shop scheduling and planning manufacturing activities by developing a common methodology. In general, the philosophy consisted of identifying the problems, implementing actions to fix the problems, and sustaining improvements made in the support shop. This was achieved by collecting support shop job activity, data analysis, and by providing the tools for improving support shop process based on topics learned in the Engineering and Technology Management Master Program. This report also provides a detailed description of implemented actions to address the identified problems.

Many companies and industries delayed addressing the issue due to old habits and not realizing that the Baby Boomer retirement impact would be devastating to departments managed by the future retirees. This problem is magnified due to all American industry and governmental organizations being impacted by the same crisis at the same time. Assumptions were made that the leadership positions would be readily filled with Generation Y, but there has been a revelation that the youngest generation is not ready to take on leadership positons due to lack of industry experience and life experience. The solution is to groom the Gen X mid-level employees and managers for the soon to be vacant senior management and executive positions. All industries and government entities run the risk of losing the Gen X managers that will sustain them until the Generation Y employees are ready to take leadership positions due to poaching from other companies in the same dire position. The intent of this paper is to acknowledge the leadership pipeline issue and provide a solution to the many companies and government entities that run the high risk of losing valuable mid-level employees to

In 1989 Hanford cleanup began with the signing of the Tri-Party Agreement which established hundreds of milestones for bringing the site into compliance with federal and state environmental

• regulations. The Richland Operations Office of the Department of Energy oversees

the cleanup effort which includes support services to the cleanup activities. In February 2010, the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative was created to reverse the historic growth of Federal Data Centers. The initiative seeks to curb the unsustainable increase by reducing the cost of data center hardware, software, and

• perations; shifting IT investments to more efficient computing platforms; promoting

the use of Green IT by reducing the overall energy and real estate footprint of government data centers; and increasing the IT security posture of the government. In 2015, the Richland Operations Office performed a project to consolidate its Occupational Medical Contractor’s data center into the Hanford Federal Cloud, the primary cloud based network for Hanford Site Contractors. In doing so, the migration provided a more secure, reliable, and standardized environment. The majority of the Medical Contractor’s applications were hosted on Windows 2000 or 2003 servers, platforms that Microsoft stopped supporting in 2010 and 2015 respectively. Once transitioned to the Hanford Federal Cloud, the applications were encompassed into the ongoing Infrastructure and Services Alignment Plan, which provides a baseline for continual infrastructure development.
