Facilities Options

slide-13
SLIDE 13

2015

Long-Range Facilities Planning Committee generated 5 options

  • Grade transitions model (entire Cottage Grove grade stays together)
  • Neighborhood schools model (Cottage Grove school divided by attendance

zones)

2016

Options narrowed by Board based on various academic, social and financial factors

OPTION DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Current Grade Configuration

Academic Factors:

  • Affects achievement (especially K and grades 6-9)
  • School transitions for students (also Social)
  • Grade/group sizes
  • Size of building

Financial Factors:

  • Cost of student travel
  • Effect on other neighborhood schools
  • Building design

Social Factors:

  • Parent involvement
  • Interaction between grade levels

(also Academic)

  • Student travel time (also Financial)

GRADE CONFIGURATION

slide-15
SLIDE 15

Options Similarities:

  • 5th grade comes out of Glacial Drumlin which creates capacity space in the

school.

  • 1st grade comes out of Taylor Prairie which creates capacity space in the

school.

  • Winnequah - same in both options with current grade levels.
  • High School - same in both options. More on Physical Education space on

December 12.

OPTIONS

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Grade Configuration

(4K-K; 1-5; 6-8, 9-12; Winnequah 4K-5) Academic Factors:

  • Cottage Grove grade levels are split
  • Fifth grade in elementary setting

Financial Factors:

  • Minimal remodeling at TP, CGS, GDS
  • More 4K classrooms in District building
  • Need to build new school

Social Factors:

  • Two transitions before high school

  • Certain schools projected to be slightly over capacity by 2036-37

○ Option A - Cottage Grove & New School ○ Option B - New School
