Lighting Update

slide-10
SLIDE 10

10

  • Luminaire over the centre of the

carriageway provides consistent lighting result

  • Flexibility to locate support poles – uneven

spacing is OK

  • Trees trimmed above luminaires to

achieve maximum clearance above road

  • Significantly less ongoing tree

maintenance

  • Potential to utilise support poles for

Christmas decorations

  • Higher installation cost

Confirmed Catenary Road Lighting

slide-11
SLIDE 11

11

Advantages

  • No spill light onto properties

Disadvantages

  • Required a lot of fittings, which led

to a significant increase in construction costs

  • Bollards are vulnerable to

vandalism

  • The lighting result was rather poor
  • nce modelled

Footpath Bollard Lighting

slide-12
SLIDE 12

12

Advantages

  • Less fittings required (reduced

the number by 20 positions Vs Bollards)

  • Luminaires mounted at height

are less vulnerable to vandalism.

  • Improved lighting outcome on

the footpaths resulting in better uniformity.

  • Luminaire is flexible allowing

post installation adjustment Disadvantages

  • Requires some additional lighting

columns between the catenary poles

  • Slight increase in spill onto

residential properties but still very low level

  • However, LED’s are recessed

into each individual spot which means the light source won’t be as visible to residents when compared to the existing road lighting

Footpath Column Lighting

slide-13
SLIDE 13

13

  • Located on the back of catenary poles with

supplementary columns in between

  • Typically 5.5m High
  • Typical spacing every 15-35m between lights
  • Reduced vulnerability to vandalism
  • Improved lighting quality over bollard option
  • Managed spill light effects through the use of

flexible and compact amenity style lights

AT Design Update

slide-15
SLIDE 15

15

  • Road safety audit on scheme design completed

and scheme modified

  • Ponsonby Road and Victoria Street intersection

scheme design developed

  • Traffic modelling of New World entry and Victoria

Street

  • Agreement with New World
  • Stormwater detailed design underway
  • Landscape consultation with AT/AC specialists

Design Progress

16

Scheme Design Changes

  • Intersection layout revised
  • Raised cycle facility extended to Victoria St and

Ponsonby Road intersections

  • Raised separators used to provide additional

cyclists safety at Victoria St and Ponsonby Road intersections

  • Signals modified for cycle phase
  • New World entrance revised
  • Cycle lanes moved off road at Victoria St.

New World Entrance

slide-20
SLIDE 20

20

  • Agreement in principle for entrance modifications
  • Traffic modelling undertaken to determine delays

and queues at intersection and in New World

  • Single lane exit from lower car basement only
  • Flush median improves delay from car basement
  • Clearway improves movements also.
  • Entry detailed design including tracking required.

Stormwater Scheme Design

Key Issues

  • Clash with existing and new services
  • More investigation on existing services.
  • Design of ‘cycle friendly’ catchpits and location
slide-22
SLIDE 22

22

  • Finalise scheme design
  • Proceed to detailed design phase
  • Progress landscape design
  • Complete stormwater design for both upper and

lower Franklin Road

  • Complete engagement with mana whenua
