- Almost every community in the United States has gangs.
- In the street culture, the gang represents organization,
safety, security, identity, power, and family for some youth.
- One motivator for Joining gangs comes from the feelings of
powerlessness over ones destiny, or environment.
- Youth who experience a loss of hope and meaning in life
are more vulnerable to gang involvement.
- The lack of employment opportunities for youth makes
drug gangs more appealing to youth who live in these
- communities. Gangs can provide job opportunities for youth.
