Garfield Re-2’s guiding principles for returning to learning 2020-21 include:
★ Education - Delivering a coherent, competent, and cohesive course of instruction for each of our students and anchored in WHHW ★ Health Guidelines - Adhering to state and local guidelines and Board Policy ★ Safety - Keeping students and staff as physically safe and emotionally healthy as possible ★ Equity - Ensuring access and equity for all students ★ Communication - Communicating consistently, clearly and concisely with staff, families and community partners ★ Adaptability - Ensuring flexibility to meet the social, emotional and learning needs of all students and staff, within available resources
CDE Reopening Decision Tree
Recommendation: Reopening School

students with an on-line
- ption for students who
request it

- Monitor state-level safety
guideline changes and adjust as necessary

Options if State or County Guidelines Change
If the situation in Garfield County changes, we will be prepared to transition to either a hybrid model or a distance learning model. The goal is for students to continue learning so that there are no gaps when we transition back to in person education.
Hybrid Learning Model (Only if Required):
In-Person & Distance A/B Schedule:
- Half of the students come on
Monday/Wednesday
- Half of the students come on
Tuesday/Thursday
- Students are distance learning on
the “off” days Students will be grouped alphabetically by last name to honor family schedules. Grades and accountability for learning in all settings. Safety
- 6 foot distancing where possible
- Face coverings required for ages 11 and
above as per Gov. Polis public health
- rder on 7/17/20
- Screen students for fever and other
COVID-19 symptoms
Distance Learning Model (Only if required):
Distance learning adjusted from the Spring model based on parent and teacher feedback. Grading and accountability for learning for all students. Attendance will be taken - new policy is under development. Teachers instruct from their classrooms if safety allows. Follow the district’s teaching and learning model & teach the standards. Provide paper packets and resource delivery for the elementary level if needed. Assess student learning in cohorts of children in schools if safety allows.
More than ever: Partnership!
Two way communication Updated information United and stronger
Nexu Steps
Board provides direction for moving forward tonight. Pending approval of this plan: Begin communicating with and informing families and staff. Schools will reach out to families and staff to find out their educational intentions for returning to school. Principals and directors continue development of the 3 learning models using the recommendations from the 3 task forces. Development of the plan includes transportation, food service, custodial services, and instruction.
