Case Highlight

  • Student in Shangri-la, Yunnan

6 Mar 2015 Intl.SOS was notified by patient’s friend that the patient was currently at the ER of the hospital in Shangri-la, Yunnan. The patient had been vomiting since the night before and developed difficulty in breathing. They wanted to know if it is safe for the hospital to administer drip to the patient. Intl.SOS Medical Team was able to speak with the treating doctor to understand the diagnosis and treatment plan. Intl.SOS Medical Team then spoke with the patient’s friend to explain the treatment and gave assurance to proceed with the drip. The patient was treated and kept in the ER for observation. The patient discharged after treatment was administered. Intl.SOS Medical Team followed up with the patient a few hours after discharged. The patient was better, no longer vomiting. Intl.SOS Medical Team provided advice on fluid management as dehydration will reduce her altitude tolerance 7 Mar 2015 A second follow up call was made to the patient. She was much better and that she would be following the team to descend to Lijiang the next day before returning to Singapore.

  • Provide assurance when a medical situation happened in an unfamiliar
