SLIDE 2 PASTI is a Scientific and Professional Society Established in 1991
The present status PASTI represents today more than 2,100 graduate Ichthyologists working in Greece and Cyprus. With a 60% of them working on their study’s sector after graduation, most of our members works as scientific personnel in aquaculture (75%), followed by a significant percentage working on public administration (15%), and research (10%). The Society has the dual role of Workers’ Union, dealing with working conditions, wages, and Health & Safety issues for those working mainly
- n private sector, and Scientific Society’s.
We continuously educate and train our members, and colleagues, initially through AquaMedit International Congresses (5 from 2002 to 2010), evolved to HydroMediT International Congresses on Applied Ichthyology & Aquatic Environment (from 2014, every 2 years, with Univ. of Thessaly,
- Univ. of Aegean, TEI of Western Greece), more at www.hydromedit.gr,
workshops, and training courses to disseminate R&D results.

A total of 521 FRAs were identified in the study area, out of which 511 are national (254 established by fisheries, 21 by environmental, 85 by archaeological and 151 by maritime legislation), 6 are EU, and, 4 are International FRAs. All the FRAs identified and mapped cover approximately 56.2% of the Aegean sea. 38.0% of the study area is covered by permanent and 27.6% by seasonal FRAs In most of the FRAs mapped in the study area, restrictions on fishing activities concern the use of towed and mobile gears, while the use of static gears is restricted in approximately half of the FRAs identified. It was estimated that towed, mobile and static gears are permanently prohibited in 38.0%, 3.2% and 2.4% of the Aegean sea, respectively.
