What does an 80-minute class look like?

  • Opportunities to switch between multiple activities in a single period, allowing

them to apply the same information to various contexts.

  • Less of a time constraint for students to ask questions in class.
  • Spending more time in-depth on material in lieu of reviewing.
  • Chunking time in 15-20 minute segments which might include presenting

information, guided practice, question and answer, collaborative activities, and other creative methods to ensure understanding and mastery of the subject matter.

  • This is not doubling lessons… it is breaking up material in multiple ways in the

duration of a lesson.

How would this improve our student experience?

  • Reduced transitions
  • Better use of time
  • Greater efficiencies
  • Teaching students to take ownership for learning and self-advocate
  • Learn how to prepare for class

What if we cancel or delay?

  • Delay:

○ Adjusted schedule so all classes meets ○ 51 minutes each ○ Lunch and Learn remains intact

  • Cancel:

○ A day is never missed ○ Example: if we cancel on a Monday that was a G Day; then G Day is pushed to Tuesday (or the next day we are in session)

  • Benefits:

○ Equitable time - even if delay or cancel ○ You never ‘miss’ a day ○ Resource availability

slide-15
SLIDE 15

What will homework look like?

  • Double the class time does not equal double the homework.
  • As always, enough to reinforce concepts and verify understanding.
  • Students will have the opportunity to seek help during Lunch and Learn.
  • More opportunities for revision, extension and remediation.
  • Potential for homework decreasing.
