Care Quality Commission (CQC)
In June 2015, the CQC identified concerns regarding:
- the number of qualified,
experienced and skilled staff
- the need for prompt assessment
(“triage”) by a registered nurse
- regular staff training
- checks on equipment
and medicines
- organisational systems
The continued need for change
a) Nurse recruitment b) Value for money c) Right place for care d) Recognisable opening hours
- Not about “cost-cutting”
- Recognition for other
reviews (urgent care and Forest of Dean)
Options
- 1. Change the opening hours of all MIIUs to 8am-8pm
- 2. Change the opening hours of the MIIUs in Stroud
and Cirencester to 8am-11pm
- 3. Change the opening hours of the MIIUs in Stroud
and Cirencester to 8am-11pm, and also the one of the MIIUs in the Forest of Dean to 8am-8pm
Given the challenges of overnight nurse recruitment and the low number of attendees after 11pm, a “Do Nothing” option was not deemed safe or viable
