Act 1 Act 1 Getting Our Ducks in a Row
Outreach ! Our mentors from PrimeTime LAUSD ! They recruited industry friends ! Graduates working in the industry ! College educators in our field ! Interested parents
Looking for Structure ! Rick came in and took leadership ! Some advisors came once, some stayed ! Developed goals of group ! Four areas: marketing, curriculum, fundraising, technology ! Then Rick got a new job – time for change
Act II The Glory Days
New Leadership ! Al took leadership ! Brought in others – his business partners ! Meeting monthly at one of two corporate headquarters ! Dinner on the business! ! Very productive and engaged group
Much Accomplished Board provided expertise, connections, resources and sweat labor – even hired some of our students. ! Developed website ! Developed promotional video ! Opened bank account ! Provided constant updates on state of the industry ! Advice on curriculum updates
Accomplishments - con’t. ! Assisted with events: open house, 10 th anniversary celebration, fundraising campaigns ! Donations of equipment ! Help upgrade technology ! Help with redoing physical structure ! Al’s tribute – raised $12,000 ! VEA – Business/Education Partnership Award
Act III Into the Sunset
Roll with the changes ! Al retires – Mike takes over as President of Board ! Meetings less frequent ! Mike sells business – starts new business ! Dylan gets laid off ! Chuck steps in ! Chuck selling house – moving to Colorado
Epilogue ! We’re part of LA Hi-Tech Grant ! Partners with LA Valley College ! Will have industry advisory board with them ! Our weekly mentors continue to advise ! Other advisors help as needed
