Infomaker Digital Presentation Universe
IM Presentation Universe public white paper, 20171025, Peter Månsson/CTO. Infomaker’s Newspilot Digital Writer is a fantastic tool to work with. You write articles, create content, add images, videos and other enrichments or embedded content. In the Digital Writer you work with structured content that is suited for publication in all kinds of digital channels. Integrated image and fileflow together with a well developed management of metadata is also a part of the Writer solution. It is a solution with structured and accessible content for presentation in Infomaker’s presentation solutions as well as in third party solutions.
Infomaker out-of-the-box, 3:rd party or in-house
Media houses have different preferences for their publication’s presentation front ends and processes. The choice of a certain technology or platform depends of history, legacy, policy, competence, organization and goals. It is important for us to be able to offer out-of-the-box solutions for different kinds of digital publishing and presentation. Like mobile and desktop web, native iOS and Android apps for news flows, digital issues, push notifications and ePaper. With fast on-boarding, but also possibilities to adapt and further develop with new modules and functions. Many of our customers go all-in, as they chose all components in the process from Infomaker’s ecosystem. Some choose to mix our components with other solutions, as they build their universe partly with Infomaker products and other parts from third party or in-house development.
Create, store, provide and present
We always distinguish between presentation (for example a website) and content. It is important that production of the content, the storage and the presentation is separated. With a multilayered architecture and APIs for each layer, it is easier for you as a customer and for us as software developers to grow and develop over time. If you, for example, don’t like your web solution and change to something else, the content is still available, and the new solution can be developed in parallel. It also adds possibilities to have several presentation layers connected to the same content. And if you chose to change the content storage solution you can change just that part, without affecting the production tools or presentation in websites and mobile apps. In a corresponding way, the tools for content production are separated from content storage. This makes it easier to change or introduce new tools with minimal impact on the other parts. Existing standards, like e.g NewsML, are also close to our heart and we always strive to use these in our solutions 1 (8)

Open Content (OC)
Open Content is the backend for digital publication. All content i collected and available from one location. Content is published online without any need for export, copying or import between different systems. Open Content manages any content independent of origin - which means anything from articles to images, video and metadata. The content (images, articles, videos etc) are stored in Amazon S3-buckets together with extremely fast access to selected parts of content and metadata via a very fast index. OC takes advantage of Open Source technology with Solr as base. Solr is a very widespread, incredibly fast, search-platform which in turn is built on Apache Lucene. Open Content can be scaled from a small single setup for small publicists, to very large installations with parallel, redundant clusters. By scaling OC with a satellite-model the risks of downtime are reduced, in case
- f for example a attack. Every satellite-OC can in turn consist of one or many OC, depending on load and

SLIDE 3 Our customers run both sites and apps with OC as digital backend, with both our as well as other frontends. Open Content can be delivered as SaaS-based cloud service or for installation in customer specific private cloud as Application Management.
Live Content Cloud (LCC)
Live Content Cloud is an API that is used together with OC to get relevant notification of changes in content or metadata in OC. As a client you register to LCC and tell LCC what kind of notification you want to have, for example all articles tagged with “latest news”. Live Content Cloud offers near real time updates

second. Live Content Cloud supports sending and pushing notification to both iOS and Android. Live Content Cloud is delivered as a SaaS-based cloud service where you can connect your OC. Live Content Cloud is also included as a part of the service OC Cloud. 3 (8)

OC Concepts is our standard for metadata management:
- Author, byline
- Categories, typically one or many trees with taxonomies as Sport/Football.
- Entity Tags, in common language tags structured as person, organization, subject or other.
- Stories, that can be used to connect article series.
- Geo Positions, geotagging, PoI
- Geo Areas, geotagging,
- Events
By standardization the metadata flow is streamlined both within and between installations. The tools to create content, like the Writer and the Dashboard, as well as the presentation solutions use OC Concepts
To make it easier and more efficient to admin metadata we are developing an easy to use and powerful admin tool, OC Concept Admin. With OC Concept Admin you can for example approve new tags, create taxonomies or predefined geo-areas. 4 (8)

Everyware - front ends for Websites
Everyware is a presentation platform totally adapted to build, run and publish responsive news-sites. Focus is on simplicity, fastness, stability, and management of large publication processes. Content, as articles and images, is fetched directly from OC. The architecture means that production, storage, and presentation is clearly separated - a strategy many media houses are seeking. The solution uses WordPress as platform for templates, plugins, administration and authentication which gives the concept a well known ground platform. Everyware adds a complement to the stack with plugins and framework to present the content and thus eliminates the parts of wordpress that are not useful and that are less suitable for professional media. One important part in Everyware is that the editor has full freedom to control publication of material, but also has the ability to automate and publicate with algorithms. The module Boards is a tool built on blocks. With the Boards-tool you can build templates and front pages. And it is also useful to manually edit content on front pages. As developer you have full freedom to use and configure a basic setup for ready-to use widgets, for example to show articles, images, images shows, ads, teasers and lists. This minimizes the development time to get a new site. You can also develop new Widgets. Widgets are used in Boards as components to build up pages. 5 (8)
SLIDE 6 If you develop a multi site solution there is good support for easy reuse of the site, but with different themes and content. With Everyware it is also simple to share content between different sites with different display themes. Everyware runs in a redundant and scaleable Amazon environment, where Infomaker takes full responsibility of operations, support and maintenance. We have support offers that covers “office hours”,
- r “24/7 - i.e. 24 hours a day ”. Maintenance and upgrades can be rolled out in full operation without
downtime.
Infomaker App Platform
Reading and media consumption of news and of digital storytelling in mobile devices is increasing fast. Media companies are in hard competition of digital moments. At the same time, digital users have very high expectations of the app’s performance and of the experience of the app. A poor user experience is a very high risk. The user might abandon the app and your product and turn elsewhere. That is exactly what Infomaker App Platform is about: Provide content and give users a mobile experience
- f high quality, at a minimum in line with the user’s expectations. Which is there to help you build relations,
increase conversions, and to create revenue. Infomaker App Platform is about packaging all our knowledge and all our experience from different customers to get a modular and scalable app-solution.
