Conclusions

  • Many opportunities for the application of new

information and communication technologies in the enhancement or development of regional/national information systems

  • Need close links with developments in the

international trade world, especially with regard to the establishment of Single Window systems

  • Need to monitor ongoing discussions among CITES

Parties on issues related to traceability and standards

Conclusions

  • Opportunities for collaboration with other regions

that have progressed in the development of national and regional e‐permitting systems

  • Development of more effective communication

systems among ACTO technical persons working on information systems, e‐permitting, traceability, etc.

  • Leeway to invest in subprojects to strengthen local

stewardship and information management

Conclusions

The Amazon region, with a few exceptions, has excellent knowledge of information systems and the elements necessary for the development or enhancement of e‐ permitting systems. What is needed is more work to make compatible and interoperable information systems when possible and ensure that national e‐permitting systems are harmonized with international standards and norms.

Conclusions

Investment in infrastructure is also needed, including computer and network equipment Emphasis on adherence to global data and information standards and promotion on their use is also needed
