We are looking forward to meeting yourselves and your children. Obviously, these are very strange times and we have not been able to do things quite the way we normally would. However, we still want to do everything we can to make your child feel welcome and you feel relaxed. If you have any questions before this time, please do not hesitate to contact the school via email: newstarters2020@lakeside.staffs.sch.uk We will get back to you as quickly as we can. It is our aim to make sure that you and your child feel happy and secure at Lakeside and we would like to reassure you that we will do everything in our power to help your child in their transition.

Parents and community

Parent workshops Parent coffee mornings Fundraising – Macmillan, Cancer Research, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Children in Need Community projects – Great big plastic pick up!

At Lakeside, we pride ourselves on our links with parents and the local community. We regularly invite parents into school, not only to work with their children but also to regularly update you with information about how you can support your child at home. We also regularly take on community projects, raising money for many worthy causes and finding ways to bring the community together. Here are a small selection of things we have taken part in over the last few years:

Twitter

@lakeside_sch

One of the ways the we like to stay in touch with our families is through Twitter. We regularly put photos from school on the page, but parents also use this to share children’s achievements from outside of school

  • too. We also use

Twitter to share important information and dates to make sure

  • ur families always

know what is happening. Why not head over and see what sort of things we have been up to!

Support

  • Class teachers on the doors
  • Senior Leadership Team out on the path before and after school
  • Parent coffee mornings
  • Parent evenings

We also have a fantastic Family Support Worker, Angie Doxford, who is on hand to give support where needed. At Lakeside, we feel it is really important to develop a strong relationship with our families. This allows us to work together, with yourselves, to provide the best opportunities for your child possible. We also have access to outside agencies who can further support our families if the need arises. Here are some of the ways we stay in contact:

We will help your child with whatever they need when they join us. However, there are a few things that you and your child can be working

  • n before this.

➢ Toileting – can your child go to the toilet by themselves? ➢ Dressing and undressing – to begin with, for P.E., children will only remove their shoes and socks. We will work up to them getting changed over the first half term. This is something that we aim for children to do independently. ➢ Putting on coats – although it is very warm at the moment, the Autumn term can often get cold. We will work towards children being able to put on coats and zip them independently.

➢ Please put your child’s name on everything that they bring into school.

How can you help at home?
