Statistics
- African American males in S.C. make up 13.9% of the population (2000
Census).
- Public senior institutions % of first-time freshmen in 2008 who were AA was
7.3% (includes SC State, with State removed total is 4.7% for all other
- institutions. 11.4% were AA females w/ State, 8.9% were AA females w/o
State included).
- Technical Colleges % of first-time freshmen in 2008 who were AA males
was 13.8%, 20.7% were AA females.
- % of total headcount that was AA male in Fall, 2008 in Public Senior
institutions was 7% (State included, with State removed it is 5%. 12.8% were AA females w/ State, 9.6% AA females w/o State).
- % of total headcount that was AA male in Fall, 2008 in Technical Colleges
was 10%. 23.1% were AA females.
- Of bachelor’s degrees awarded in 2007-2008, 5.4% went to AA males
(includes SC State, 4.3% to AA males with State removed. AA females received 10.5% of BA’s including State, 8.5% with State removed.)
- Of associate’s degrees awarded by Technical Colleges in 2007-2008, 6.4%
went to AA males (AA females received 20.5%).
