Overview of Available Native Peoples Collections

  • Two main locations at Spadina Road Branch and North York

Central Library

  • The NPC at Spadina contains adult, teen and children’s books,

CDs, DVDs, magazines and newspapers

  • Contains over 5000 items on a wide range of topics pertinent to

Indigenous peoples and communities

  • The collection at NYCL contains adult fiction and non-fiction

materials in print, CD, and DVD formats

  • NPC has been at NYCL since 1987
  • The collection at NYCL contains over 3500 items

Indigenous Language Collections at TRL:

  • The Languages & Literature Dept. on the 4th floor of the Toronto

Reference Library houses two collections of Indigenous language materials

  • One is a collection of Indigenous language dictionaries and texts;

the other is a collection of Indigenous language learning materials containing audio cassettes/CDs

  • Over 40 Indigenous languages and language families are

represented in these collections, including Algonquian, Cree, Mohawk, Anishinaabemowin, and Oneida
