Library Team: The Library Assistant

Here's just SOME of the things our awesome Library Assistant does for us:

Keeps the library open and handles daily library maintenance, allowing the librarian to prioritize teaching, collaboration, collection development, resource curation, community building, and student services.

  • Maintains sign-in sheets and assists with monitoring student behavior
  • Assists students with locating books and resources and a myriad of other requests.
  • Processes all new books
  • Shelves all books and keeps library organized and therefore accessible
  • Sanitizes tables, chairs, and keyboards regularly (yay!)
  • Processes inter-library loan requests and periodical subscriptions.
  • Maintains the library and computer lab schedule
  • Assists with library displays and activities
  • Mrs. Carol Maholland

Library Team: The Library Media Specialist

  • Curate collection of print & digital resources to meet curriculum and info needs.
  • Manage the library & build a culture of readers and responsible info users.
  • Connect information users with the info & resources they need for academic,

professional, and personal excellence.

As a certified teacher: As a librarian:

  • 1. Teach Information Literacy skills

(i.e. How to identify an information need & then responsibly locate, evaluate, select, synthesize, use, cite, present, and reflect on the information.)

Instruction & Collaboration

Instruction on: Finding info in books & databases, finding GOOD QUALITY info on free web, citing sources, taking notes, and presenting the information. With the 1:1 program, students and teachers can often use an extra pair of hands when using tech in the classroom. Your librarian can help assist when students need to use a new app or tech tool for their project. I can also recommend and instruct on new presentation tools, when powerpoint gets old :)

The library and librarian are a resource that belongs to all of the students and teachers of the school. Sometimes the role of the school librarian in this tech rich era can become unclear. Without

  • utreach, advocacy, and advertising: my students and teachers

may be unsure of how the library and librarian can serve them. School Library Month provides a platform for celebrating, advocating for, and the advertising of the great services and resources your library provides!

Why did I want to Share this with you?
