What is Meth? • Powder Meth • White, odourless, bitter tasting • Simulant, once used for medicinal purposes (ADHD, obesity and narcolepsy) • Smoked, ingested, snorted or injected • Crystal Meth • Generally colourless and odourless • Typically smoked • Effects • When smoked, effects felt within seconds • High can last 6 to 18 hours • High is usually followed by a binge • ‘Amphetamine psychosis,’ similar to paranoid schizophrenia

Meth Production and Transportation • Mexico is a major producer, however Alberta does not generally import meth from Mexico • Precursor chemicals imported from China • BC is a significant producer • Dissolvable in solution for disguise during transport

Price of Meth • 2015 - $100/ gram • 2017 - $50/gram or $10/point (0.1 grams) • 2018 - $3/point • DEA has noted a 50% drop in meth prices throughout the U.S. as well.
