Synopsis

A family look forward to go on holiday. On the way they get involved in an accident and suddenly their lives turns to the unexpected. This is the story of what happens to a father and a child who loses the one they love the most. How do they handle the sorrow and get adjusted to their new everyday life? The father (Roger) and the son (Pål) tries in their own way to continue with their lives, but the grief and the guilt split their relationship. The situation gets worse because the two has never been doing things together before. A series of dramatic and comic situations evolves. Roger does not manage his grief very well and he finds it impossible being a sole parent for his twelve year old son which leads to several critical incidents. At a time where they really need to stay together, both of them are left alone unable to support each other. Pål does everything in his power to unite with his father which he loves. In spite of the helpless behavior of his father he refuses to give up on him. Together is a real life story about loss and love and it is told with passion and humor. In a moving way we are witnessing a dramatic story about beginning a new life without the one you love the most.

Directors note

This is a story about a father and his son’s journey through sorrow after their loss of the one person they loved more than anything. It’s about how they deal with their new everyday-life without her, and their effort to win control over this new situation in their lives. I’m fascinated by characters that find themselves in a crisis situation, because it gives greater access to the human psyche and opens up possibilities to tell about complex characters and more engaging stories. The starting point of this story is how a normal and well-functioning family reacts to a tragedy, what is does to them. How do they continue their lives? It’s easy to forget how fragile life really is. Matias Armand Jordal

Director and scriptwriter Matias Armand Jordal (b. 1970)

Matias is educated at Dramatiska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. He has over the last 8 years directed TV-series, commercials and short films and has won several awards for his films. “Together” (Sammen) is his feature film debut.

Producer Tom Rysstad (b.1965)

Tom has a BA Honours in Business Organisation. Through his own company Mirmar Film Production AS he has produced several shortfilms and documentaries over the last 5 years. Together (Sammen) is his first feature film.

Director of Photography Odd Reinhardt Nicolaysen (b. 1970)

Odd Reinhardt is educated at the Norwegian Filmschool and have been DOP on two Norwegian features (Kissed by winter won the Grand Jury Prize at the AFI Filmfest) and also on the Emmy nominated TV-series “Ping Pong”.

“Roger” Fridtjov Såheim (b.1968)

Fridtjov has long experience as a film- and theatre actor and has over the last 5 years had a number of profiled roles in Norwegian features. In “The art of negative thinking”, which has won international acclaim (first prize at Karlovy Vary), he plays one of the leading characters.
