2017 Committee Activity

• Interviewed and selected candidates for keys consultant positions

including general contractor, structural engineer, and architect

• Added two members to committee and lost two members
• Holtkamp organ listed for sale
• Presentation to congregation about the organ design; comments

gathered and shared with builders

• Created webpage on Cathedral website for information about the

project

• Interviewed and selected candidate for new acoustician and A/V

consultant for nave organ project

• Received and analyzed acoustician report
• Received and analyzed preliminary schematic design from architect

and schematic estimate from general contractor based on acoustician report

• Build a masonry wall to replace the current wall at front of sanctuary
• Stiffen ceiling to resist movement
• Build and shape wall in two bays of balcony where existing organ is located and

reduce depth of remaining two bays with solid construction wall

• Stiffen floor at altar and choir area

Priority Items – Echo Control & Noise Control

• Diffusive shaping of nave lower walls, west balcony side walls/upper corners
• Revise ductwork of HVAC units serving sanctuary
• Vibration isolation of HVAC units

Priority Items – Audio/Visual (AV) Systems

• Revise loudspeaker system
• Audio monitoring system for chancel area
• New AV infrastructure including video feeds to organ
• New hardwired microphones for chancel area

Nave Organ – Space Preparation Process

Project Planning

• 1. Model existing space using 3D modeling software (SketchUp)
• 2. Perform preliminary code review for the affected spaces

Architect Schematic Drawings

• 1. Architect collaborates with acoustician and organ builder to understand

and plan project goals

• 2. Prepare preliminary structural framing plans
• 3. HGC to prepare preliminary cost budget
• 4. Committee and consultants review and provide feedback

Schematic Drawing Development/Refinement

• 1. Develop and clarify plans, sections, elevations and key details
• 2. Committee and consultants review and provide feedback
• 3. Revise drawings from review comments
• 4. Refine structural framing plans; provide preliminary foundation and framing details
• 5. Prepare preliminary mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plan
• 6. HGC to prepare updated cost budget
• 7. Committee and consultants review and provide feedback

Construction Documents

• 1. Prepare detailed plans, sections and elevations as needed for construction and

permitting

• 2. Prepare detailed structural framing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plans,

drawings and details as needed for construction and permitting
