Palace of Culture and Science

  • It’s a notable high-rise building in Warsaw. Constructed in 1955,

it is the center for various companies, public institutions and cultural activities such as concerts, cinemas, theaters, libraries, sports clubs, universities, scientific institutions and authorities of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Palace of Culture and Science is the tallest building in Poland, the eighth-tallest building in the European Union and one of the tallest on the European continent. It is 237 metres (778 ft) tall. The building was originally known as the Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science, but in the wake of destalinization the dedication to Stalin was revoked. Stalin's name was removed from the colonnade, interior lobby and one of the building's sculptures.

Wieliczka Salt Mine

  • Located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland, lies within

the Kraków metropolitan area. Opened in the 13th century, the mine produced table salt continuously until 2007, as one of the world's oldest salt mines in operation. It reaches a depth of 327 meters and is over 287 kilometres (178 mi) long. In 1978 it was placed on the

  • riginal UNESCO list of the World Heritage Sites. Even the crystals of

the chandeliers are made from rock salt that has been dissolved and reconstituted to achieve a clear, glass-like appearance. It also houses a private rehabilitation and wellness complex.

Maria Skłodowska- Curie

  • (7 November 1867 – 4 July 1934) She was born

in Warsaw, in what was then the Kingdom of Poland. She was a Polish physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person and only woman to win twice, the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two different sciences. She was also the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris, and in 1995 became the first woman to be entombed on her own merits in the Panthéon in Paris. She discovered two new elements: Radium and Polonium.

a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era who wrote primarily for solo

  • piano. He has maintained worldwide renown as a

leading musician of his era, one whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation.” His major piano works also include mazurkas, waltzes, nocturnes, polonaises, études, impromptus, scherzos, preludes and sonatas, some published only posthumously.

This is the oldest school in Bartoszyce which is in the eighteenth-century neo-gothic

traditions of the parish school, the evangelical Latin school and the Prussian State Gymnasium for Men which former were in this building.
