TALKING BOOK PROGRAM

Talking Book Program provides: Free alternative-format books for Texans of all ages who are unable to read standard print due to visual, physical, or reading disabilities (lifelong or temporary)

Eligibility • Blindness • Visual disability • Physical disability • Reading disability (i.e. dyslexia)

Disability Information & Referral Center (DIRC) • Free reference service to those who need info about disability services • Available to the general public . You don’t have to be registered at TBP to call DIRC.

Talking Book Program

Digital Talking Book Machine (DTBM) • Books play on cartridges with no moving parts • Touch buttons control the functions of the machine

BARD Braille and Audio Reading Download No Wait No Limit No Due Date No Overdue Notices Just browse, download & go.

BARD – Mobile Application Now you can play books on your mobile or tablet • Available on IOS and Android platforms • Free • Must be a TBP patron and registered for BARD

How to Sign Up Fill out an application Get it signed by a certifying authority Available in English and Spanish

Certifying Authority • Applications must be signed by a licensed professional who can verify your disability • Examples of those who can certify – Family Doctor, Eye Doctor, Registered nurses, Professional staff at hospitals, Social Workers, Librarians, Clergy *For Reading Disabilities, certifying authority must be a doctor .
