‘To increase the volume of international business events secured in Bristol and the surrounding region, through engagement and collaboration with local experts from the academic, high-tech and wider business sector’.
WHAT IS AN AMBASSADOR
An ambassador in the context of the meetings industry is “a person of knowledge and stature, influential in their field, who can act as a representative of a destination and is prepared to work with local meetings professionals to secure conference business for that destination”.

Supports securing business events to Bristol through - Identifying business events - Initial research & insight to see if the conference is right for the city Supporting the bid process for conferences with professional input A letter of recommendation Engage with international associations Participate in case studies that promote the region as a destination for conferences

CASE STUDY: NEWCASTLE GATESHEAD CONVENTION BUREAU
▪ The main objective is to increase the profile and international rankings of the universities with the next REF due to be submitted. ▪ Over 50% of city business comes via the Ambassador programme (a mix of conference, socials and accommodation) ▪ The main type of business is association or society led ▪ Working in partnership with 2 Universities ▪ Partnering with events (on campus) to raise the profile of the ambassador programme and importance of conferencing.
