PRE-HEATING SYSTEMS

  • Pre-heating is mandatory when the upstream pressure is higher then 12 bar (UNI 9167:2009)
  • Used to prevent the excessive temperature lowering due to the significant gas pressure reduction
  • Commonly used to prevent water and hydrocarbon particles from icing inside the gas
  • Cause serious operation problems to the regulation apparatus up to reaching the block of the gas supply

TRADITIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

  • Use thermostats, boilers and water / gas heat exchangers
  • Non-intelligent system: the boilers’ control is regulated only

by the set-point of the thermostats.

slide-18
SLIDE 18

PRE-HEATING SYSTEMS

Traditional management drives to :

  • High thermal inertia
  • Gas temperature fluctuation
  • Excessive gas heating
  • Thermal dispersions
  • Excessive consumption of pre-heating gas

Traditional Management

slide-19
SLIDE 19

PRE-HEATING SYSTEMS

Traditional management drives to : EMMA is the first and unique device specifically developed for optimizing preheating process at decompression and metering stations Real-time control unit to get to the best performance by reducing natural gas consumption. EMMA continuously analyzes in real time the following system operating parameters:

  • Gas flow rate
  • Water temperature
  • Gas temperature

Through a sophisticated “AUTO-LEARNING” adaptive algorithm (just few hours after the commissioning) EMMA automatically sets the best configuration of boilers and electro-circulators.

FIELD-TEST AVERAGE RESULT from more than 550 Emma installed at City Gate Stations:

  • 36% NATURAL GAS CONSUMPTION
slide-20
SLIDE 20

PRE-HEATING SYSTEMS

  • EMMA’s basic principle is to continuously provide the right heat amount

to natural gas

  • Possible over-heating is useless and inefficient and must be avoided
  • EMMA is capable of providing working details of all the equipment involved

in the process and prevent irregular system behavior

Gas temperature set-point range of ±1°C, than the set temperature

Working Principles

Lower Carbon dioxide (CO2) emission Allows to get Energy Efficiency Certificates

24 WORKING PRINCIPLES

  • INGRID is usually installed at the same height and same pressure than

the serviceback-up tank

  • Thanks to the high precision of the integrated magnetostrictive level

gauge, the system is capable of measuring and calculating the exact volume of the injected odorant

  • the system is capable to track the exact remaining quantity of product in

the main tank.

  • If any problem occurs, the system automatically switches to bypass

mode and provides an alarm messageto the SCADA system

  • INGRID traces allworking parameter each 15 minutes
