MALA YSIA’s CONCEPT OF MUHIBBAH

  • Popularized by first Prime Minister of Malaysia
  • Welcome the differences, maintain the sovereignty of Malay

institution

  • Yet, maintain the welfare of others
  • Not in the same meaning with PLURALISM

Pluralism: blended porridge - Muhibbah: a bowl of salad.

  • Divide the understanding of faith and social dimension
  • Understand the differences, work the similarities.

  • “Muhibbah is a unique word, self-

contained and self-explanatory, a word with no direct

meaning

kinship and togetherness, love and affection, sympathy and empathy, respect and decorum, among

  • thers

Muhibbah is certainly not ‘tolerance’; it is much richer and is far, far warmer than mere tolerance.” (Kamaruzaman, 2013: 18).

Conceptual Analysis

  • Muhibbah is impossible to be applied if double standard still possess

the mentality – affect the government policy.

  • Myanmar should understand the meaning of a democratic country.
  • Apartheid and genocide – violation of ASEAN Human Rights

Declaration.

  • Sao Shwe Thaike in 1959 declare the Muslim Rohingya as legal

citizens.

  • Killing and harming are not acceptable in 10 precepts of Buddhism as

well as Islamic syariah punishment of had and qisas towards the same actions.

  • Mutual understanding and engagement should be fostered amongst

the coexistence society.

Conclusion

  • While the towers are skyscraping, why the humanity is degrading?
  • Need to escape from the comfort zone.
  • Prepare to lower the ego and self-interest.
  • Accept the similarities and learn the differences.
  • Understand the essence of Muhibbah – actualize it towards stability

and harmonious living.
