West Coast Childhood Resiliency Project
Building relationships and trust through engagement and action
The Project:
- To establish why childhood vulnerability in SD84 is high and
recommend actions
- $50k grant received from Island Health, held by School District
- Working closely with new Gold River Children’s Health Hub
- Identify local assets, external supports and future actions

Regional housing availability and affordability
Housing
- In 2015 46.1% of renters in
LHA 72 and 52.6% of renters in LHA 84 are spending more than 30% of their income on housing
- Combined population
growth for both regions is projected to increase by 11% over the next 25 years
‒ 75+ age bracket to increase 250% ‒ 20‐44 age bracket to increase by 20%
- Address affordable housing across the region and across the housing continuum
- Identify projected trends
- Develop shared data measurements
- Identify policy interventions
- Develop multi‐sectoral partnerships and collaborative planning
- Positioning communities to leverage external funding and support
- Research evidence‐based best practice in comparable communities
- Identify opportunities to increase the availability of appropriate, affordable
housing across the region

Transport: Improve access to affordable, reliable transport
Transport was identified as a high priority at both Health Network forums Access to affordable, reliable transport contributes to mental health, physical health and regional prosperity. It is linked to other priority areas such as:
