The number of visitor increased steadily after the Domestic Terminal Bldg. started its operation, but after 2009 it temporary decreased due to the Lehman Shock and the Great East Japan Earthquake. With the LCC beginning operating in 2012, the passengers demand recovered and the highest number of visitor ever was achieved in FY2017. We are ranked 4th in number of domestic travelers at Japanese airports.

Because the former International Terminal Building became old and overcrowded, construction works for the new International Terminal began in 2012, and it started operations in February of 2014. In line with the Tokyo Olympic Games, the number of inbound visitors is expected to increase further exceeding the already surpassed capacity estimated at the time of its construction. In order to cope with this situation, plans for expanding the terminal building as well as the area for immigration procedures will be executed.
