The number of visitor increased steadily after the Domestic Terminal Bldg. started its operation, but after 2009 it temporary decreased due to the Lehman Shock and the Great East Japan Earthquake. With the LCC beginning operating in 2012, the passengers demand recovered and the highest number of visitor ever was achieved in FY2017. We are ranked 4th in number of domestic travelers at Japanese airports.

Because the former International Terminal Building became old and overcrowded, construction works for the new International Terminal began in 2012, and it started operations in February of 2014. In order to cope with the increasing passenger demand, works for connecting the Domestic and International Terminal Buildings are in place. This project is intended to increase the international and domestic flight capacity. We aim to start its operation within FY 2018. Structural Fabric: Reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete 5 floors above ground Total Floor Area: Approx. 39,000㎡ *Total floor area for whole Naha Airport Terminal after work completion approx. 153,000㎡ Facility Placement: 1F: Access lobby 2F: Domestic flights security check area, gate area, shops , etc. 3F: Check-in lobby for domestic and international flights 4F: Shops 5F: Machine room

9. Project for Expanding the International Terminal Building

  • International Terminal Building Expanding Works Scheduled to start at the end of 2018

In line with the Tokyo Olympic Games, the number of inbound visitors is expected to increase further exceeding the already surpassed capacity estimated at the time of its construction. In order to cope with this situation, plans for expanding the terminal building as well as the area for immigration procedures will be executed. Structural Fabric: Reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete 3 floors above ground Work Area Expansion: Approx. 9,600 ㎡ Upgrade: Approx. 5,400㎡ Facilities: Expansion of inspection and screening area, arrival conveyor belt, departure gates, area for shop tenants inside departure gates, facility for international connection (new addition)
