M alawi Educational Partnership Ekwendeni

  • Ekwendeni is a town about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from

M zuzu, in the Mzimba district of M alawi. It is one of the busiest (and largest) towns in the Northern Region of M alawi.

  • Ekwendeni was started by Scottish missionaries. It has
  • ne of the oldest churches in M alawi belonging to the

M alawi equivalent of the Church of Scotland.

  • Ekwendeni is largely surrounded by tobacco growing

farms.

  • It has one of the highest HIV/ AIDS prevalence rates in

M alawi mainly because it is a favourite resting place for truck drivers travelling between M alawi and its northern neighbours, Tanzania, Kenya and beyond.

attack in Nairobi, ERC advised to remove visit to Kenya.

+ Allows us to spend more time in M alawi,

benefit to local economy, still able to take part in safari excursion.

Caused by parasitic worm hosted by a waterborne snail Stagnant & shallow reed areas, particularly near villages, are likely to have bilharzia Avoid bathing near villages & in shallow coastal areas Always towel off vigorously after swimming If symptoms occur, bilharzia is easily and painlessly curable with course of Biltracide Please always consult your GP or travel clinic
