Presidents Message

In 544 BC a wise sage said, “no man steps in the same river twice, for its not the same river and he's not the same man.” We cannot escape the inevitable fact that change is always with us. This observation is not only true for nature and human beings but also for organizations. Riverview Adult Day Health Center is no exception. For more than a quarter century, Riverview has experienced much change while at the same time remaining true to its founding principles---honoring the dignity of every guest and enhancing their quality of life by providing excellent care. A year of dynamic change has resulted in increased levels of care for our guests, respite for caregivers, professional growth of staff, and board development to advance our mission. Continued support from donors like you motivates us to embrace creative change to better serve our guests. On behalf of Riverview guests, caregivers, staff and board members “Thank You” for your loyal support. This annual report highlights an amazing year of change in 2018. As we dream and plan for Riverview's future, the words of John F. Kennedy challenge us---”Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” Will you help Riverview Adult Day Care Health Center embrace opportunities for the future? You ask, “How can I do that?” There are several ways: become a volunteer, contribute to the annual fund, include Riverview in your will or in your estate plan through a gift annuity or charitable trust. For more information contact executive director Nicole Hardy- Pagels or a member of the board referenced in this annual report. Your support will be gratefully received and deeply appreciated. It has been my privilege to serve as board president for the past two years, and I am delighted to hand off the mantle of leadership to Susan Rowley in 2019. Sincerely, Richard Heiss, President Board of Directors

EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS MESSAGE

Dear Friends, The 365 days in 2018 were full of growth, excitement and community belonging! Riverview has been around now for over 26 years! It wasn't until recently that Adult Day Centers became more popular and accessible - last year 3 day centers opened up in Mishawaka. In general, there are three types/levels of adult day centers: social, medical/health and specialized (which provide services only to specific care recipients, such as those with diagnosed dementia or developmental disabilities. At Riverview, we provide all 3 levels! We have a Certified Program Director that plans all the activities for our guests; we are a medical model, we a have an LPN, a QMA and a CNA daily on staff to provide health monitoring. We also have an MSW that meets with our guests monthly. I believe that the term 'Adult Day Care' does not honor the dignity and autonomy of the elderly and disabled adults and veterans that are served by our program. 'Day Care' is a term used for children, not adults. We decided that our name should better reflect who we are as well as who we serve so added the word HEALTH to our name. Not only does it add awareness to what services Riverview actually provides but it gives dignity to the seniors and adults that receive health, social and related support services from Riverview Adult Day Health Center in a protective setting each week. We have exciting plans for 2019! Remodeling some of our space, applying for some larger grants and continued growth! You can keep tabs on us via our facebook page or you are always more than welcome to stop by the center to take a peek! Lastly, thank you for your continued support! Riverview thrives because YOU choose to support us! Warmly, Nicole Hardy-Pagels
