Indian Ocean Forum on Maritime Crime Purpose: To assist states of the Indian Ocean Region to coordinate their responses to maritime crime
Aims • To promote a shared understanding of regional maritime crime issues • To formulate strategies to combat maritime crime • To enhance the sharing of intelligence related to maritime crime • To enhance coordination on investigating and prosecuting maritime crimes • To develop the capacity of states to combat a range of maritime crimes
Technical Level Meetings Improving information sharing and law enforcement cooperation through the formation of: • Regional Prosecutors Networks • Regional Transnational Law Enforcement Networks
Three Main Pillars • Drug Trafficking • Trafficking in People and Smuggling of Migrants • Wildlife Crime • Also Somali charcoal ban and Fisheries Crime
Strategic Level Meeting • Annual regional meetings – To formulate proposals for action and cooperation – To identify other maritime crimes areas that are threatening the IOFMC community and make recommendations – To endorse the work plan for the IOFMC
