VISTA members are placed in local communities to build organizational capacity in programs that help alleviate poverty. Due to this capacity building focus and the fact that the VISTA service is just one year, it’s important to be clear about restrictions on the tasks assigned to VISTAs. Specifically:

  • VISTA members’ time must focus on the VISTA Assignment

Description;

  • VISTA members can’t provide direct service;
  • VISTA members can’t replace/supplant staff; and
  • VISTA members can’t be the office administrative staff.
