Format of the Evening
- Meetings for those considering applications for
‘competitive courses’ - medicine/dentistry/veterinary science/Oxbridge
- Students encouraged to apply for Summer Schools
e.g. Nottingham University, Sutton Trust, Uniq
- Higher Education Evening (tonight!)
- Students introduced to UCAS and other websites
and are briefed on where else to get information
- Students introduced to the ‘Fast Tomato’ careers
website, Which? A Levels
January-March 2017
- HE Fair, University of Loughborough 26th April
- Medical Applicants Evening - students & parents
- More work in special, extended tutor group sessions on
the What, Where, When, How of the application process
- Opportunities to investigate alternatives to university
- 29th April – Oxbridge Workshop with Magdalen College
- Focus on students requiring support with work
experience – Mrs Ellis, Work Experience Co-ordinator
April 2017
- 12th May - Exam Study Leave
- 19th June* - Students return after AS exams
- 26th-30th June-HE Preparation Week - Careers Day - 29th June,
includes sessions on how to succeed in interviews and how to write a UCAS personal statement.
- Registration with UCAS.
- Opportunities to visit Open Days, work experience including The
Lord Mayor’s Cultural Scheme plus enrichment activities e.g. Lourdes
- Discussions with students:
- about options for Year 13
- to support those who plan to leave
- *All students are required to attend to end of term to continue A2 in September
May – July 2017
- Final research on courses
- Publication of AS results
- Discussion with parents
- Action planning: students should have finalised their choices
- One to one discussions with tutor, Mrs Nolan
- Continue application process…..
- 1st October CUKAS applications (music only)
- 15th October: Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry, vet. science applications completed
- Students to complete their Personal Statement and submit to Tutor by October Half
- Term. Our deadline for all submissions to UCAS is 6th November.
- 8th November – Entrance exams for Competitive applications
- 8th November – MMI evening, The Becket School
- December – Oxbridge interviews
August-December 2017
- Formal deadline for receipt of UCAS applications, 15th

- Advice on responding to UCAS
- Monitoring of responses by tutors, students advised on
dealing with universities’ responses
- Briefing on financing life at university
- Parent session led by Student Finance England
- UCAS Extra (another chance for those who have failed to
get offers)

- A2 EXAMS – May/June
- Third week August : A Level results published
- Support during UCAS Clearing and Adjustment
- Result (if all goes well): Happy students about
to start the right courses at the right universities or apprenticeships!
