Rowing For All

In 2014 Des Moines Rowing Club envisioned making rowing on the Des Moines River and Gray’s Lake available to military veterans as well as other athletes who have physical challenges. In 2015 we adapted our first boat and found our first two rowers. In 2016 we were gifted a single shell from Mark and Ann Baiada that was designed for adaptation. In 2018 we held a dual-para-regatta at Gray’s Lake. In 2019 we will take delivery of a single racing shell gifted to us from SFG & the Jaye McKinnon estate. Later that same year we received funding from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation for a double adaptive shell the we acquired in 2017. With the amazing generosity of the Spinal Cord Injury Association and the Storey Kenworthy Foundation for Giving that same year, we were able to purchase a second double shell. These two double shells allowed us to offer Adaptive Learn To Row Days as well as include Para-Rowing at our club’s annual regatta, HOTDM, in 2017.
