▪

Ability to satisfy the needs of transports and travels for different categories of users

▪

Ability to prevent as well as effectively handle incidents that results in traffic disruption

100 ‘normal’ families will experience self-driving Volvo XC90s on public roads in Gothenburg

  • The project was kicked off

in 2013, and the pilot begins in 2017

  • Similar pilots will later be

run also in London and China

  • Scania and Volvo both participated in

the European Truck Platooning Challenge, and are now preparing for multi-brand platooning projects in Sweden as well as within H2020

  • The off-road domain is also attractive for

both companies. Volvo is currently piloting a self-driving truck in the Boliden mine in Kristineberg.

The legal road to self-driving vehicles

  • Proposal submitted March 31, 2016 for the regulation of trials using

self-driving vehicles on roads.

  • Submit proposals for an introduction of fully or partially automated

vehicles on the road. To be reported no later than November 28, 2017.

(SOU 2016:28) The Swedish Transport Agency is collaborating with UNECE’s relevant WGs for international harmonization

Challenges and lessons learned

  • Accessability/Mobility is more important than autonomous vehicles
  • Pilots are crucial for end-user understanding and acceptance
  • Cross-functional collaboration absolutely critical to success

Areas of cooperation

  • Sweden has several links into relevant branches of the European

Commission

  • The Swedish Transport Agency represents Sweden in the DG Move

led C-ITS platform work

  • Several Swedish organizations are also actively involved with DG

MOVE, DG RTD and DG CNECT

  • Sweden is well represented in EU-focusing platform organizations

such as ERTRAC, ACEA, EUCAR, ERTICO and CLEPA

  • Sweden has contributed to ITF-OECD’s recent efforts on connected

and automated vehicle topics
