Big Lottery Fund is the largest community funder in the UK. Last year we distributed £700m to 12,000 proj ects, using money raised by National Lottery players. Most of our grants go to local charities, run by volunteers – and whether the grant is for £500, or £5m, our funding is used by communities across the UK to support amazing proj ects led by local people. We received over 90,000 enquiries and applications during the past year. Most of our funding goes to proj ects applying through open, responsive programmes such as Awards for all and Reaching Communities.

What does a strong application look like? Aligns with our vision of ‘ People in the Lead’ Focuses on the strengths that people bring Demonstrates understanding of local context Involves beneficiaries in the design and development of services Clearly articulates evidence of need Clearly demonstrates impact, with measurable outcomes We want organisations to tell us about their ideas, their missions and visions, and the support they need to create positive impact in their
- communities. We are interested in ideas which have people at the
heart of them, and this could be done in a number of different ways depending on the types of interventions and the local context in which they operate. Ultimately, we want you to tell us what ‘People in the Lead’ means to you.
