MARKET

Problem

85% of parents believe that financial education courses should be a requirement for high school graduation (LearnVest) 2/3 of high-school students fail a basic financial literacy test (JumpStart)

Problem Reality

Wild-eyed, gold-rush, Klondike speculation, that’s what wins the Stock Market Game The way to win this competition is to break every rule of sound investing that I just taught you In real life you probably should not invest this way.

As of 2015, 39 states have adopted financial literacy standards as part of the Common Core State Standards (CEE) Existing in-school programs teach about the stock market using mock-portfolios, which rewards risky behavior and short-term thinking.

PRINCIPLES

YIS

Vision – Real-life Experience– Leadership – Integrity - Community -

The Young Investors Society seeks to inspire a vision of 1) individual potential, 2) the process of evaluating businesses, and 3) how investment success can be achieved. Youth will get hands-on experience evaluating companies, building financial models, and buying and selling stocks. Each local chapter of Young Investors Society is run by the students, recommending and investing in stocks, and mentoring new members. Members feel a part of a global community. Service projects are a crucial part of the program. We make special outreach to empower low-income kids. Society members will uphold the highest levels of ethical standards in investing, and learn to determine if a company demonstrates good corporate governance practices.
