100% Digital Leeds

Leeds Libraries are leading the 100% Digital Leeds digital inclusion programme for the city. Working to ensure everyone in the city has the skills they need to improve their lives through digital. Supporting organisations to develop their skills, confidence, and connectivity, so that they can best help their service users. We take a furthest first approach – we want to help the people who will most benefit, first.

The challenge in Leeds

Improved digital skills and access helps people to live better, easier, longer lives. The numbers 90,000 adults without essential digital skills 50,000 adults not online at all Older people are least likely to be online and are often the ones that would benefit most. The barriers Access: cost of equipment and broadband Motivation: not understanding the relevance Skills: lack of online skills and confidence

Motivation

Digital Champions We have trained over 1000 people in the community to be Digital Champions and Digital Health Champions. Digital Champions help people to understand how digital can help them and encourage them to take their steps with digital in the way that will most benefit them. Anyone can be a Digital Champion – it’s about being friendly, supportive, and encouraging, not being a computer expert.

Partnership Collaboration is fundamental for improving outcomes. Working with 100% Digital has changed our learning.

Partnership

slide-15
SLIDE 15

I am happy to work with all of you to achieve this. Other team members are working to deliver other legacy outcomes but I want to provide information you can use from day one Time to Shine funded AGE UK Leeds to run the Digital Angels project which ended in This was studied by our local evaluation team and a report was written The knowledge gained was shared and has informed practice Job done BUT Thanks to 100% Digital and all of you, it wasn’t..

Our Learning around Digital

I want to share this as widely as I can, with any organisations that support older people I want to create learning reports that reflect the work done by our Time to Shine partners

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Give us the stories of how it has helped people so I can convince others to give it a try Since the Digital Angels work several of the Time to Shine funded projects have experimented

  • With using a range of digital technologies
  • With using digital in an embedded way,

recognisingthat that is how older people can be engaged, just as we are

  • With using that technology in a range of settings

Sometimes it has worked, sometimes it hasn’t and so you can take some shortcuts, you need to know what does work..

Our Learning around Digital

Share your top tips and tell me what didn’t work I want to produce a toolkit that will work for you ( as well as a report for funders and influencers). To help me do this please
