Active Schools Initiative
Educate Motivate Inspire Engage Lifelong participation in sport and physical activity.
Active Schools
Participation Increase the number and diversity of children and young people participating in Active Schools activities. Provide more and higher quality opportunities to participate in sport in schools (before school, during lunchtime and after school). Engage with children and young people who may experience barriers to participation to support their inclusion in activity. Support and develop effective pathways between schools and clubs to improve the transition of children and young people from schools to clubs.

Grow and develop a network of people to deliver opportunities within schools ensuring they have the confidence, skills and knowledge to deliver quality sporting opportunities. Recruit, retain and develop volunteers to deliver opportunities in schools. Share and promote opportunities to participate, lead and volunteer in sport. Provide support and leadership opportunities in a range of roles including: deliverers/coaches, event competition organisers, technical
- fficials, decision makers and ambassadors.
People
Fantastic support from teachers and parents over the years. Always welcome more parents to assist with clubs. PVG checked and training provided. Only 1 hour a week.
Volunteers/Coaches
Sports Coaching Award- Woodfarm High school. Young leaders P7- Trained and supported Volunteer nights- 4 x a year Leadership Academy- 5th and 6th Year. Placements across after school clubs for pupils. PVG arranged. Ongoing training offered to all coaches and volunteers. Coaching and Volunteer awards night- Annual event.
Training and Mentoring
Multi sport camps offered during holiday programme. Eastwood High and Barrhead High- 2 camps during Spring Holidays and summer holidays. Volunteers assist with camps. Lots of opportunities to be active!
Holiday Camps
Important for progression and sustainability. Pathway for children to follow from PE to sports club. Active schools assist in promoting club activities. Clubs assist in festivals, health weeks and events providing free coaching. Move to create 4 Community Sports Hubs (Giffnock, Barrhead, Whitecraigs, Eastwood).
