The Queensland Police Search and Rescue Unit has used the SPOT Tracker units on both the Grantham, Crouch and Morcombe searches. The units were used to provide real time locations of the search teams which ensured that each team was searching the correct area assigned to them. As the location of each search team was easily identified they were able be diverted to areas that required further investigation without the need to seek a location via radio. The search areas were able to be saved and later used as an accurate record of the areas covered and those left to be done.
