In this session we will explore several aspects related to protecting the rights of older persons who may have delegated some of their decision making.  How competency is determined from a legal and medical perspective when handling heath care decision making.  Limits of Health Care Proxies and Power of Attorney designations.  How to protect the rights of older persons who may have delegated some or all of their decision making through a Health Care Proxy, Power of Attorney or Living Will.  Guarding the rights of an individual consumer to participate in their health care decision making.  Considerations for health and aging services providers when families and patients seem to disagree on what health care options to pursue.
