What is it all about?

  • Student councils exist in many schools but

they have different roles and different responsibilities.

  • Some schools have a council in name alone,

and they do very little.

  • We are looking for our school council to have

a wider role in shaping the future of our school. .

The plan

  • Each base group, including sixth formers will

vote for a student council representative (also known as base captain).

  • These pupils will attend a student council

meeting which will happen every two weeks.

  • Students will meet each week with Mr Phillips

who will help to chair the meetings.

The plan

  • The role of the council is in truth up to the

council, but in general, pupils will have a say in things like…..

  • The general day to day running of school life
  • Meeting with the Head and deputy heads to help

to shape policies such as merits and rewards systems and behaviour.

  • Meeting with Governors to discuss the vision for

the school.

  • Helping to interview new staff members on

interview days

and after schools to meet with governors and the head.

  • You have the chance to vote for the Head Girl

and Head Boy roles as well as possibly deputy roles

  • You also vote for the base representative in

your base.

  • Remember make your decision on how much

you trust their ability to help lead the school, not just because your friend is voting that way.
