Board Policy
- BP 6161.1 Instruction
- The Board shall select instructional materials for use in
Grades K-8 that have been approved by the State Board of Education (SBE) or have otherwise been determined to be aligned with the State academic content standards adopted pursuant to Education Code 60605 or the Common Core Standards adopted pursuant to Education Code 60605.8. (Education Code 60200, 60210)
- The Board's priority in the selection of instructional
materials is to ensure that all students are provided with standards-aligned instructional materials in the core curriculum areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and History/Social Science.

ELA
- Elementary (TK-6) adopted
McGraw Hill’s Wonders and Wonderworks in 2019
- Oak is currently piloting
McGraw Hill’s Study Sync (existing materials date back to 2002 and 2010)
- TCHS piloted Pearson’s My
Perspectives this year and will pilot McGraw Hill’s Study Sync next year (existing materials date back to 2002, 2005, and 2010)
Math
- Elementary (TK-5)
adopted Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Expressions in 2017
- Secondary is currently on
hold until the new framework is released (existing materials date back to 2008 and 2015)
Core Content
Science
- With the new Next
Generation Science Standards, a full TK-12 adoption is needed
- Conversations were held
at both Oak and TCHS to determine model
- Existing materials date
back to 1999, 2004-2007
Social Studies
- With the new framework
due to be released in 2023, it is recommended to wait
- Existing materials date
back to 2006 for TK-8 and 2008-2012 for 9-12
Online Curriculum
- APEX is our current online curriculum provider for
students that may qualify due to unique circumstances such as:
- Independent Study
- Home Hospital for some students
- DDSLC
- Credit Recovery
- Digital curriculum in an online environment taught by
NON-TCUSD teachers to support the needs of identified students
Online Curriculum Vendor Fair
- Provide a transparent process for vendor selection
- Explore options to use TCUSD teachers and control
content
- Explore independent and blended learning
environments
- Provide access to courses in a flexible format
- Compliance with PE and independent study
requirements
Technology
- Instructional materials are no longer just based on a
textbook
- Additional content and resources included in online
components
- Some publishers provide a hybrid selection of both
print and digital, while others have gone completely digital
- As we move forward with adoptions, technology costs
must be factored in
